After yesterday's day of rest, I was pretty excited to go see Arizona. On the east side of Phoenix, there is a popular trail that loops around and through the Superstition Mountains. The Apache Trail is composed of Historic 88 and Route 60. It takes a large part of your day just to make it around the loop, but you hardly notice because of all the great sites and vistas along the way. It is quite a dramatic drive as the narrow 2 lane(sometimes 1 lane) highway hugged the cliff's side, then winds around the mountains with each turn a new and exciting view. Tyler and I found we had to be more selective with our stopping because we would have been there late into the night still trying to take pictures. Besides the beautiful mountain scape, there were a few other must sees on our list. The Roosevelt Dam, Tortilla Flat, and a small Ghost town were worth seeing. (The 3rd image from the top is what was waiting for us at the end of this long trail. If we had not crossed this flooded road, we would have had to turn around and drive the entire trail back in the dark. That would have taken quite a few hours! Luckly, enough there were other cars ah head of going over the road. We felt a little better about doing so, but just a little.
